Fizeram o quarto pensando numa casa de campo, com cores mais quentes para deixar o ambiente mais aconchegante.

I know it’s been long time I haven’t post anything here, but I have a good reason for that.
The last 10 months were a bit rough and challenging. I got pregnant, we moved back to Brazil, baby was born, wasn’t sleeping for a while… so there wasn’t a lot of time to dedicate around here.
Now, Luca is almost 5 mo and my life is starting to get back on track again. Since work is getting back too I decided to give to this blog a new reason why: to help spread the word about the products and textiles I’ve been producing. And for that matter another spin here: I’ll be writing in Portuguese, my native language. Sorry for the inconvenience that may cause for english speakers, but I must focus in a local market for now.
You may see a lot less posts from now on just because my work life might get busier. Hope you stay around and keep following my work.

Here is an old chair that my husband and I found on Craigslist a couple months ago. We got it for a complete make over. The wood was in a natural color, the fabric was very worn out and the foam and batting needed to be completely replaced. I usually would send it to an upholstery shop but this time we decided to do the work by ourselves. My husband found some tutorials online and we found a way to have fun with that over the weekend. The frame got a paint job in matte black and a new fabric by Sandra Romanoff (me!). We've started this job a few weeks before moving back to Brazil, so the chair is not finished yet but soon will be.

It's been a week since we arrived in Sao Paulo and we're ready to start a new life here.
We have a lot of things to do and we are very excited to make things happen. It wasn't easy at all to leave our friends in San Francisco, but it's an excellent excuse to come back to pay visits anytime we want!
Yesterday was a rainy day in Sao Paulo and I stayed all day long in front of my computer trying to get things done from my to do list.
I've been planning my new apartment already even without having time to start to shop around yet, so it was a long day and fortunately I had time to browse a little bit to find some interesting poufs/ottomans that caught my eyes. The poufs Missoni are my favorites. I wish I could get one in my new place. :-)

Brazil, here I come!

It's time to go home after 3 years living in San Francisco with my husband. We had a wonderful time here, we made lifetime friends and certainly we'll leave our hearts in the City!
It's challenging to leave this place but we're really excited to be close to the family again and of course not to mention the nicest weather in the world.
I'm moving in a few weeks, so my life is getting insane right now. I'll probably be absent for a while, but I promise I'll be back again with a lot of news.
In the meanwhile if I have some spare time to post something interesting, I will.

And talking about Brazil, here are some pictures with a typical Brazilian cotton fabric called 'Chita'. It's a very cheap fabric, known by colorful bold flowers that's usually applied at outside areas. It's definitely a good way to bring the tropical fun to your house.

Moroso is an Italian manufacturer company responsible for outstanding products.

I’m in love with the Sushi collection designed by Edward Van Vliet.
The fabric’s combination that was developed specially for this collection is fantastic. The patterns, colors, and everything else goes perfectly together. And I really like the name given!

Patricia Urquiola has a beautiful work. One of them is the sofa above with embroidery details.

The ruffled sofa from Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka remembers clouds in the sky.

Hi! I know that has been long time that I don’t post anything here. I’ve been really busy creating new collections. I’ll try not to take so long to post again, ok?
Talking with some friends yesterday about exclusives pieces in our homes, I decided to look in my archives for some pictures that show exactly what we were talking about: accent elements that brings personality to a neutral scenario. You can reach that type of result with a patterned armchair or sofa, fancy wallpapers, a painted dresser, exclusive headboard, and so on.
We take those risks sometimes to bring to our room some fun, personality or even luxurious. It all depends on the patterned, color and type of furniture you will decide to play. See some example below.

Hi everyone! I’m back from a great vacation in Brazil where I spent quality time with my family and friends in a beautiful beach and hot weather. The difficult part was to come back to San Francisco and feel the cold breeze in the city. But the good part is that it’s time to have fun at the mountains snowboarding!
So, back in Brazil I was able to read a lot of local design magazines and for my surprise some of the work I did in the past with my former partner from In House Design got published in one of the most famous interior design magazine from Brazil. Yay! It’s always good to see our name in a good magazine, don’t you think?
Reading those articles I chose some pictures and works of people that caught my eyes to start posting in 2009.

With an old wallpaper catalog you can transform a simple white wall in a remarkable and colorful one. The creative mind behind it is Ana Strumpf from Garimpo+Fuxique. You just need to have good taste to make the mix and have fun!

Another simple and interesting idea is to transform a spoon or fork into hangers. The tip is to use silverware, that’s flexible and easy to bend, looks good and give a lot of charm to the final piece. I should try this someday.

What about cover an old bench with fabric or renovate a bookcase with bright color paint and stickers?

A few days ago I was zapping around some of my favorite websites and found out a poster that I fell in love when I first saw it on a friends house. Ok, the poster has nothing about new, in fact its history comes from 1939. The “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster has such an interesting history about how it was created. At that time, during the Second World War, the British Government’s Ministry of Information were responsible for creating posters that were intended to offer the public security in the dark days of the attacks and invasion that they would suffer. The “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster was never officially published, but nowadays they became a trend. You can spot those posters everywhere from Shabby Chic store to Etsy.
Last week my friend came with a special gift for me, and guess what? I now own a Keep Calm poster! It’s definitely a special gift since she is moving out of the country and it will be a good way to remember her.

The home of J. Crew creative director Jenna Lyons is showed at the November edition of Domino Magazine. I’d like to talk about her baby’s room because it’s a good example for people that don’t really like traditional pink and blue baby style and want to do something more grown up.
To be honest, I love the result of the yellow stripes on the ceiling and the contrast with the dark wall. The crib, dresser and accessories choice were perfect to give an interesting and elegant mood to this bedroom. You can find more pictures of her place at this month’s Domino Magazine.

Recently I received by email a very unexpected and surprising architecture project created by Ivo Mareines and Rafael Patalano, both Brazilians architects. The house is in Mombaça beach, Angra dos Reis – Rio de Janeiro, which in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil.
It’s a contextual project that wouldn’t work in a lot of places for sure. They were spot on taking the risk to build such a different architecture in a beach place. The view and the material choice are impressive.
Another project that I related right away was the Antibodi Chair from Moroso created by Patricia Urquiola. The fabric is sewn in triangular shapes creating organic patterns.
The materials (wool, leather and felt) create petals shapes that can be facing upwards or downwards giving a different look to the chair.

I have some friends that moved to a house in North Berkeley, California and wanted to create something different at their living room wall. The challenge was to come up with something inexpensive to a rented house. As they both have such an artistic talent it wasn’t that hard. So they spent 3 days painting the entire wall in freehand style and the result was amazing. Excellent job guys!:-)

I usually don’t write about food here but when I saw Maria Brigadeiro’s website I fell in love with their packaging ideas. Might not be that interesting for most of you that aren’t born or grew up in Brazil. So easy to cook, brigadeiro is a famous and traditional Brazilian candy that is part of people’s childhood.
Maria Brigadeiro did a wonderful job renovating the tradition, turning it into a so chic candy mixed with other hi-end ingredients.
I wish I was able to find more pictures of packaging to share with you all.

These pictures are great reference for people that are not afraid to mix colors. It’s always better to start with a neutral background and then you add the accents. I like the mix of printed fabric on the chair and love the patchwork stool. They give personality to the space.

First of all, I'm finally back! I had a wonderful vacation with my family and friends back in Brazil and at the same day I headed to SF I found in Cottage Living Magazine an inspiring Spanish style house that I completely fell in love with. The tiles they used in the kitchen, entry and upstairs hallway are amazing. Their colors are so chic and also bring coziness to the house. Check Cottage Living website. Hi everyone! I'm still off for a couple days on vacation in Brazil and wanted to share with you the brand new In House Design website. They finally got updated brilliant work online.
This week I visited their space on one of the most famous showcase in Brazil. They were invited to create some sort of gourmet area and the work came up so outstanding that they won a prize from the event organization. Check out the pictures below.

Back in Brazil I used to be a habitué at Casa Pronta Moveis. As I ran my own design studio I used to visit them almost once a week.
I love the way they display their work. Every year they invite architects and interior designers to create real bedrooms in their shop. It’s a fantastic way to elevate the product. The ambient used to be so cozy and even the smell was good.

New Collection to come!

Here is a preview of the new Beija-Flor Collection (humming bird in Portuguese) that I’ve been working on for the last weeks. It’s a mix of bold and thin strokes in a floral style that give a contemporary yet fun look to a room.
I’m so excited about this work because it’s focused on sophisticated style and mature colors like washed orange over gray tones.
As it’s still work-in-progress, I’m planning to spend a little more time on the color palette and combinations on the next few days.

Do you ever felt that need for change? As I'm not talking specifically about changing career or something like that, I decided to start changing something at home.
It has been a while since I decided that a new dining table would help a lot in my new plans for my place. So last weekend we went to Crate and Barrel and found what I could call 'The Table'. Of course I'm not lucky enough and the table we picked is in backorder until August the 16th. Means that I'll keep my patience test until then.
In the meanwhile the great moment of change begins officially with my new twin chairs. I bought some fabric from Ana Maria Horner and covered these two ordinary Ikea bamboo chairs a couple days ago.
I thought my place was in need of some fun and color and these patterns are perfect for what I was looking for.
I totally forgot to take pictures during the makeover to show you guys how I did it, but I found a picture of the chair on Ikea website just to show a before/after thing.

Mibo

It was love at first sight when I saw the Mibo’s lamps.
What caught my eyes were the beautiful prints with great combination of colors bringing a fun and contemporary look to any home.
You can also find their work applied to other products like pillows, wallpapers, towels, etc. This lamp is definitely on the top of my wish list.

Isn’t it wonderful when a mix of elements simply works like that?
Joao Armentano, a renowned architect has built this stunning contemporary house that later was remodeled by In House Design.
What I like the most here is the combination of contemporary furniture with specific classic pieces like the chandelier, ottomans, bench, etc. The ambient looks so chic and sophisticated.
In House Design are getting better and better. I can’t help myself waiting for them to launch the brand new website with all most recent work.

Orange Piel is an exclusive distributor of Clipso Technical Fabrics that offers custom and seamless wallpapers and ceiling textiles. So far nothing new, right?
Wrong. They developed an installation method that doesn’t use adhesives. It’s a perimeter tracking system that stretches the fabric throughout the wall.
It allows you to customize the fabric with your own imagery/creation reaching huge dimensions. It’s like wrapping a whole wall with a canvas. Looks really neat.

Prince Chair

Look at this chair, isn’t it amazing?
The Prince Chair was created in 2002 by Louise Campbell and produced by a Danish company called Hay.
The chair is produced using high technology methods. The metal frame has a black powder coated finishing and the steel seat comes with a neoprene soft rubber and felt. The chair illustrates a motif resembling fine old lace.

SP Fashion Week Summer 2009

It’s finished the fashion week show where talented designers presented their 2009 summer collections. I picked a few examples based on color palette and printed fabrics to show you all.

Pedro Lourenço
I’m not sure if I could wear this on the streets but it’s definitely an amazing design. Some of the fabrics were hand cut to mimic the shape of a bird feather. The result is impressively organic.

Neon:
Dudu Bertholini and Rita Camparato are always creating a memorable collection with colorful prints.
For this year’s collection they presented geometric patterns combined with vivid colors with ethnics inspirations. Perfect fit for the Brazilian summer.

Iodice:
The elements of the sea and Atlantida were the inspiration for this collection. The blue tones in this dress are so elegant and fresh.

Cori:
This collection is inspired in North American Indians and Mexico culture.
Again, Dudu Bertholini and Rita Camparato, designers responsible for Cori, chose a beautiful print for these dresses. It’s definitely a dress that I would buy!

I simply love these prints. They are chic, glamorous, elegant. I specially like the stripes one (stripes are one of my passion and it’s something that goes with everything).

Fashion Week

I’m not a fashion designer, neither someone that has background enough to judge all this new trendy stuff from fashion shows but I’m that one that loves to watch and follow every single collection that hits the catwalk.
Last week was the start of the fashion season in Brazil where many international known fashion designers show their new collection to the public.
Today I selected two designers that presented an outstanding work this year. The first one is Tufi Duek, responsible for creating the collection for Forum on Sao Paulo Fashion Week. His summer collection was based in a place called ‘Lençóis Maranhenses’, a paradisiacal place in the north side of Brazil. The result was very chic and minimalistic. I love the color palette he picked, specially the blue print. I’d love to have some of those wonderful dresses.

The other is Lenny, a designer known by creating sophisticated beachwear that presented their work on Fashion Rio. This year theme was above my expectation as usual. The collection was named ‘From the deep sea to sand’ and promises to transform every common woman into a chic and elegant one.

Anthropologie

Who doesn’t like to spend time window-shopping at Anthropologie?
I can spend a considerable amount of time browsing in their website, but what I love the most is to drop by sometimes.
They have beautiful stuff from furniture and jewelry to clothes and accessories. Something that always impressed me is how they use vintage furniture to help sell the store style. The fact is that in an apartment project antique pieces of furniture covered with contemporary patterns make any interior project memorable. It usually draws attention to that corner, giving a huge amount of personality to the space.

One portrait and a chair were not enough to stop me covering objects with fabrics.
This time I spent two days wrapping two more portraits, two mirrors and a wood box. I picked some fabrics that I already had (all of them are from Discount Fabrics) and some objects that I bought at the same store I got the first one: Ikea.
The only object left is a small bench that I’m saving for later. Those are a little bit complex than the portraits and need much more attention to details. I should stop doing this wrapping stuff just for fun and turn it into a job. ☺

The colorful patterns that she has been creating for fashion and home decor projects are inspiring. Small place

This is a new project from In House Design that I fell in love. It’s a small apartment for a single woman.
The few elements and perfect furniture makes the apartment so clean and chic avoiding clusters of personal stuff around the living room.
The place looks so spacious with the light color palette that was chosen for the furniture and drapery. On the other hand the wood tone keep it warm and cozy.

Circus Collection

Here is one more collection that I worked on a few months ago. This print was created for a baby bed linen. It’s a fun and delicate print that brings a light atmosphere to the baby’s room.
I truly believe that faded and light colors work perfectly with baby rooms instead of a bright palette that goes better with a kid’s room. As babies grow they should be surrounded by color stimulus that helps the learning curve.

DIY II

In my second challenge on wrapping stuff, I decided to dare a little more by covering a chair. So I went to Discount Fabrics store and bought a black and white fabric for upholstery. And that was a sort of problem on the assembly process. This fabric has a double face structure what made the work really tough when gluing, especially with details.
With the fabric ready I went to Ikea and bought a simple classic wood chair. I thought the whole thing would be easier, but it took way more time than I expected.
